Gatehouse Press’ latest publication, House of the Deaf Man, was successfully launched on September 1st at the Breese Little Gallery in London.
The gallery, which is currently displaying artist Tom de Freston’s exhibition ‘On Theatre’, provided the perfect space to launch this highly visual, challenging collaborations between picture and poetry.
With a slideshow of Goya’s ‘Black Paintings’, which inspired the collection, framing the launch, Tom de Freston began proceedings by discussing his inspirations and methods in creating his art work both for the book and for his exhibition. Poet Andrea Porter then read selections from the book, adding background information on Goya’s life and work, and providing context and inspiration for her poems.
Gatehouse is grateful to the Breese Little Gallery for hosting the launch, and to everyone in attendance. Further launch events are planned for this exciting book; details will be available on the Gatehouse Press website and through our Twitter feed in due course.
